Drilling

The first step to installing ground source heat pumps is using drill rigs to dig deep into the ground. There the temperature is warmer than air in the winter and cooler than air in the summer, hence the geothermal unit’s efficiency. After digging to the desired depth, high density polyethylene piping is loaded into the well and grouted with a chemical mixture designed to transfer heat.

Trenching

After the well is dug, we use a mini excavator to dig a trench from the well to the house. The polyethylene pipe is connected throughout the trench using socket fusion, a technique where heat is used to melt the pipe and fitting before pressing them together.

Installation

Socket fusion is used to rout polyethylene pipe to the mechanical closet housing the ground source heat pump. ClimateMaster’s iGate Smart Tank can replace traditional water heaters and connect to their Trilogy 45 Q-Mode heat pump allowing heating of water in addition to typical HVAC capabilities. In our current contracts we also install the iGate2 thermostats which actively monitor and report technical failures in the geothermal systems. This leads to quicker and easier maintenance. When all devices are connected, water is pumped into the polyethylene pipe all the way down into the well.

Geothermal heat pumps have less components than a heater and ac, leading to less maintenance.

Our geothermal heat pumps have the potential to pay for themselves by using less than half the energy while providing the same or more heating and cooling ability.
